The first Georgia Wildlife Federation Buckarama® was held at the Atlanta Civic Center in 1983. Known as the Southeastern Buckarama®, it was an immediate hit. Twenty thousand enthusiastic sportsmen and women came to purchase the newest hunting products on the market and to book the trip of a lifetime. Before long, the popular show became, simply, the Buckarama®. A second venue in Perry Georgia was added in 1991, expanding the market area to South Georgia, Florida and the Gulf Coast region. Today, the Buckarama® remains the premier event for sportsmen in the country, and loyal exhibitors re-book space year after year.

Times, They are a-Changing

As the crisp, clear spring mornings rapidly come to a close, another summer season begins to unfurl. There have been many changes in the world as we know it over the past year. Higher gas prices, a depressed housing market and the overall economy have affected all of us in some way. These changes are inevitable, but we face each new challenge with renewed strength to make our world a better place in which to live.
Georgia Wildlife Federation®, thanks to sportsmen and women in Georgia and the surrounding states, looks back to a fantastic Great Outdoors Show in February, and with great anticipation, is making plans for another terrific season of Buckaramas® in both Atlanta and Perry. These shows are important to GWF in that the funds raised allow us to carry on important work protecting the rights of sportsmen through the Camo Coalition, and undertaking conservation programs that protect habitat and clean water.

Even in the face of hard economic times, GWF will continue to offer you, the sportsmen and women of Georgia, events that showcase gear, products and technology — the newest and the tried-and-true — for hunters and anglers, and for other outdoor enthusiasts as well. New to the Buckarama in Perry this year will be an archery tournament sponsored by Mid Eastern Georgia Archers. This tournament will feature a pre-qualified division as well as an open division, allowing any paid show attendee to participate. The ever popular FFA Archery and the Daisy® BB Range will return for the kids' enjoyment. The GWF Deer Head Competition for 2008, open to all show attendees, will be completely redesigned. Winners from each category and each show, Atlanta and Perry, will compete for cash and prizes in a competition at the Perry Buckarama.

So even though times have changed, there's still reason for excitement in late summer. Hunting season is just around the corner and the Buckaramas are in full swing. There is no better opportunity to renew old acquaintances, build new ones, and shop the gear you need for the upcoming season. Mark your calendar: Atlanta Buckarama is July 31 - August 3; the Perry Buckarama is August 15 - 17, 2008. I'll see you there!
