The scarlet or swamp mallow entices the ruby-throated hummingbird with its intense color. However, it is the bee which successfully polinates the flower. Swamp Mallow performs admirably in average garden soil. Growing along a pond margin with Asclepias incarnata and Lobelia cardinalis, it is a knockout.
