GWF will be opening a nature center adjacent to the Mall of Georgia in Buford. This year, we are looking for volunteers to assist in trail development and maintenance and to promote the center to the public. If you are a new GWF volunteer, please complete the online application. In the meantime, feel free to contact millcreek@gwf.org if you have questions. Visit the Calendar for upcoming dates.

From 2003-2006, birder Karen Theodorou, DNR biologist Mark Beebe and several other volunteers conducted Migratory Bird Surveys as part of the Partners in Flight migratory study. Although the data has been collected for that study, we would like to continue offering occasional bird walks at Mill Creek.

Every October, a Rivers Alive Cleanup is scheduled as part of Georgia’s Adopt-a-Stream program. Visit www.riversalive.org to read more about this statewide event and get facts about past cleanups. This annual event at Mill Creek draws a large crowd from the community, particularly the Boy and Girl Scouts.

About every 6 months, a trail work day is held to spruce up the nature center’s grounds and take care of any trail issues. Activities during the trail work day include picking up garbage from the trails, removing any downed trees along trails, pulling, cutting and/or painting Chinese privet (to help eradicate this non-native, invasive plant from the property) and any other issues that need attending to.
